Quick Answer

What exactly is a canvas print, and how does Canada Print Studio make one?

A canvas print is your photo reproduced with pigment-based giclée inks on woven cotton-poly canvas, then pulled taut by hand over a wooden stretcher frame — the same construction method used for traditional painted canvases. There's no glass, no frame, and nothing standing between the viewer and the image.

At our facility, every canvas is printed on calibrated wide-format printers, trimmed with margin for wrapping, and stretched over kiln-dried pine bars that have already been dried to a stable moisture level so the canvas stays taut instead of sagging as seasons change. The back is stapled, corners are folded and tucked by hand, and a hanging kit is attached before the piece is wrapped for shipping.

The result: a lightweight, ready-to-hang piece of wall art that arrives needing nothing but a hook.

Pick Your Profile.

The number refers to the depth of the wooden stretcher bar behind the canvas — how far it sits off the wall. Both are sturdy and warp-resistant; the difference is purely visual.

Slim Profile

0.75" Stretcher Bars

Sits close to the wall with a subtle shadow line — a clean, understated look that works well in groupings or galleries of multiple smaller pieces.

  • Lighter weight, easier to hang in groups
  • Best for sizes up to roughly 20×16"
  • Lower shipping cost on multi-piece orders
  • Pairs naturally with thin floating frames
Gallery Profile

1.5" Stretcher Bars

A deeper frame creates a strong shadow and a substantial, almost sculptural presence on the wall — no additional frame needed, even at large sizes.

  • Reads as "finished" without any frame
  • Recommended for anything 24×18" and up
  • Better rigidity for panoramic and split panels
  • The modern gallery-wall standard

Which Size
Fits Your Wall?

A rough guide based on where the canvas will hang and how far away people typically stand to view it. When in doubt, go one size larger — undersized canvas is the most common regret.

Questions?
What is the difference between a canvas print and a framed print?+
A canvas print is stretched over wooden bars and hangs without any additional frame or glass — the canvas edges themselves form the border. A framed print is a flat photo paper print mounted behind glass or acrylic inside a separate frame. Canvas tends to feel more textured and casual; framed prints feel more formal and gallery-like.
What's the difference between 0.75" and 1.5" stretcher bars?+
It's purely the depth of the wooden frame behind the canvas. 0.75" sits close to the wall with a subtle profile, while 1.5" creates a deeper shadow and a bolder, more modern look. Both are equally durable — the choice comes down to the visual style you want and the size of the piece.
Can I split one photo across multiple canvas panels?+
Yes. Choose the split canvas option and select 2, 3, or 5 panels. We calculate the crop lines and gap spacing automatically so the image reads correctly once the panels are mounted on the wall with small gaps between them.
Will my canvas print sag, warp, or fade?+
Our stretcher bars are kiln-dried before assembly, which means the wood has already released most of its moisture and is far less likely to warp as humidity changes through the seasons. The canvas itself is pulled drum-tight by hand. Inks are pigment-based and rated for 75+ years before noticeable fading when kept out of direct sunlight.
What photo resolution do I need for a large canvas?+
Canvas texture naturally softens fine detail, so 100–150 DPI at final print size looks sharp from normal viewing distances. A typical 12-megapixel smartphone photo can comfortably print up to 30×40 inches. Our upload tool will flag your image if it's likely to look soft at the size you've selected.
Is canvas suitable for bathrooms or humid rooms?+
Normal household humidity is fine. For rooms with constant steam — directly beside a shower, for example — we'd recommend a metal or acrylic print instead, since those surfaces are fully waterproof. A well-ventilated bathroom away from direct spray works well with canvas.
Do you offer custom canvas sizes outside the listed options?+
Yes — contact us before ordering with your dimensions. We regularly produce custom sizes for awkward wall spaces, oversized panoramics, and commercial installations beyond our standard size chart.
